Cleaning Long Wool Sheepskin Rugs for OZwool
**Note**: Long Wool Rugs are also suitable for dry cleaning.
At OZwool, we recommend using **Woolskin Woolwash** to ensure the best care for your long wool sheepskin rugs. Proper care and cleaning will help preserve the quality and softness of your sheepskin, but larger rugs require special attention.
Cleaning Larger Rugs
We recommend dry cleaning for rugs larger than a single rug (such as double or quad-sized ones). When wet, these rugs become heavy, damaging your washing machine.
Washing Your Single Long Wool Rug
There are 4 stages to cleaning a longwool rug.
1. Vacuuming: Vacuum the rug to remove debris and foreign matter. This will make the next stages easier.
2. Washing: For smaller rugs, machine wash on the “wool” or “gentle” cycle in lukewarm water (maximum 30°C). Only use **Woolskin Sheepskin Shampoo ** formulated explicitly for sheepskin care. Avoid wool washes or other detergents, as they can damage the rug. Spin out excess water, but do not bleach or leave soaking.
3. Drying: Lay the rug flat on a drying rack or drape it over two chairs in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. While damp, stretch the rug to its original shape and brush the wool to restore its natural pile. Never iron your sheepskin.
4. Brushing: After washing, the wool may naturally curl. To restore its fluffy appearance, shake the wet rug and gently brush the wool with a wire pet brush. Repeat the brushing once the rug is completely dry.
Cleaning Medical Sheepskin Rugs
**Note**: Sheepskin Rugs are also suitable for dry cleaning.
Most rugs, unless soiled, are easily cared for with a vacuum and brush. Before washing, it is recommended that any sheepskin rug be Vacuumed to remove any dirt, dust and debris.
